As the foundation of the Security Guard certification course, the Security Training & Education Program or S.T.E.P  is conveniently structured to allow students the opportunity to start at any time.  Classes start each month with weekend options also available.

 

As the leading training provider in the private security industry, our comprehensive, in-class training program not only meets but exceeds Provincial licencing requirements.  The S.T.E.P program consists of five modules that must be completed before being eligible to write Canadian Security Training's final 40-hr Basic Security Guard examination.

 

Upon successful completion of the S.T.E.P program, students receive a wall certificate and wallet card and are qualified to apply to write the Provincial Security Guard examination.

 
Course Overview            

 

This course is designed to give students the academic theory and practical knowledge to be eligible to write the Provincial Security Guard licence examination in Ontario.

Prerequisites

 

This course is open to anyone 18 years of age or older who meets Ministry licencing requirements, including having a clean criminal record. All applicants must complete a Student Application Form (available online) and full payment is required at the time of Registration.  

 

Equipment Required

 

There is no training equipment required for this course.  Student training manuals and all required reading materials are included in the cost of the course, as well as a patrol duty notebook.  Mandatory student dress code is business casual.

As part of the Advanced Security Guard Training program, this course is designed to confidently prepare students in the lawful carry and use of Handcuffs and a Baton, including Use of Force legal responsibilities.  All students must complete a Par-Q physical activity survey and waiver prior to starting the course.

 

Pursuant to the Private Security & Investigative Services Act, S.O. 2005, any licenced Security Guard or Private Investigator who is authorized by their company to carry and use Handcuffs and/or a Baton must successfully complete qualified training.  Employers have an additional responsibility under the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA) to ensure that they take every precaution reasonable for the protection of their workers.  This includes security personnel working in areas where there may be a risk to their personal safety.

Course Overview            

 

The only one-of-its-kind in Canada, Canadian Security's D.E.F.E.N.S.E Use of Force program is specifically designed for security and private law enforcement personnel and is taught by current and/or former police Use of Force experts.  Providing students with firsthand knowledge and practical experience to ensure their actions are lawful.

 

This course is designed to give students the academic theory and practical skills to safely and effectively use Handcuffs and a Baton as a licenced Security Guard or Private Investigator in Ontario, pursuant to the curriculum requirements set out by the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.  All students must successfully complete a written Use of Force exam and the Practical Skills Demonstration (PSD), which includes the completion of mandatory J.D.A.S (Judgement and Decision-Making Scenarios) simulation training.

Prerequisites

 

This course is open to applicants who currently hold a valid Ontario Security Guard Licence. All applicants must complete a Student Application Form (available online) and full payment is required at the time of Registration. 

 

Re-Currency Training

 

All certificates issued are valid for one year and must be renewed annually.  Included as part of the UOF program are complimentary academic tracking and a re-currency training reminder service.
